Berkey Water filter

I am looking at this filter system, do not have well water, so city water is my supply. Am planing on having a couple hundred gallons stored in dark corner of basement and supplemental from downspouts given it rains. Has anyone purchased this unit, or another comprable? Is it sufficient for filtration? Filters are expensive, curious as to actual real life expectancy of them.

I've had mine going strong on the original filters for 2 yrs now. I believe they are good for 10,000gals. The thing holds about 3 gals, so it would take me a while to wear em out...in theory. They are self sterilizing and you just clean em periodically with a scotch pad or brush.

Someone on here brought up another company...think it was aquarain or something like that. Those are similar in design to the berkeys.

I will never go back to store bought water after using this thing. I bought my parents one, and several friends bought one after using mine when they come over.

You can buy the berkey filters, and go to the hardware store and buy a spighot and a few buckets with lids...make your own for half the cost.

ofcourse it won't be as nice as the berkey on the counter top, but in SHTF it will do more than get the job done.

I have a 275gal water catch barrel at my duplex... it gives me more piece of mind than I had prior..AND, it doesn't take much rain to fill it up.

Lots of threads in this forum on berkey vs...

For me, I use and swear by the aquarain.
